Timeless Fails To Find New Home After NBC Cancellation, TV Movie Talks Still Happening

With a slew of shows getting the last minute save by other networks when they get canceled, many fans of Timeless thought that could be in the cards for the fan favorite time-traveling drama but that was not meant to be.

Series’ co-creator/executive producer Shawn Ryan took to his Twitter page to update fans about the current situation with the show and had this to say:

@SPTV has notified @TheRealKripke and me that efforts to land at another network have sadly failed. While Sony will continue to look at any and all options, actor deals have expired and it appears there will be no Season 3 or beyond. Discussions still take place between @SPTV and @NBC about a possible 2 hour movie to conclude the story, but there are considerable economic obstacles that make it an uncertainty. We will update you when we know more. @TheRealKripke, me, the cast, writers & crew of want to send our immense thanks and gratitude to all the who fought so hard for this show. You made a second season possible and gave us hope for a Season 3. We wish the news was better. We love you all.”

Timeless has had a short but interesting life on network TV. The show had modest ratings during season one but was ultimately canceled. The news upset fans in a big way because the show ended on a cliffhanger and many people took to social media to shame NBC for the decision. NBC heard those pleas and reversed their decision to cancel Timeless and renewed it for a second season. Season 2 saw ratings that came in a bit lower than its first season average and NBC didn’t make a decision of cancellation or renewal during their Upfronts Presentation. The second season ended on yet another cliffhanger so fans were on pins and needles waiting for a decision but ultimately NBC canceled Timeless again but there was no reprieve this time around. NBC has expressed interest in a 2 hour TV movie to fully wrap things up but new deals would have to be made with cast and crew in order for that to happen.

Created by Kripke & Ryan, Timeless launched with a mysterious criminal stealing a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. It then was up to a soldier (Matt Lanter), a history professor (Abigail Spencer) and a scientist (Malcolm Barrett) to use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit co-starred.
