The Boys Season 3 Renewal Drives Comic-Con@Home Panel

The biggest news to come out of the panel for The Boys was an early season 3 renewal for the popular Amazon Prime series, although it is still up in the air when production will start due to the current state of affairs.

Amazon released a full announcement:

“Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their ‘weirdo’ demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys! The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room, and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus.”

Beyond that, the panel covered season 2 spoilers. When the Amazon Prime series returns on Friday, September 4, “it’s a lot more intense” than the show’s freshman run, showrunner Eric Kripke said during the panel. “We worked hard to make Season 2 crazier, but also more emotional and higher-stakes,” Kripke previewed. “Everyone’s in a tight spot. The Boys are wanted fugitives coming off of last season. They’re being hunted. They’re screwed, and they’re doing their best to fight back at Vought. However, they can, but Season 1 was a big loss for them.”

Season 2 will tackle some huge and timely subject matters, including white nationalism and systemic racism. “We try to make it kind of a commentary on the up-to-the-minute world we’re living in because it’s just this strange blur of politics and celebrity and media and social media manipulation,” Kripke explained. “It says so much about the world that we’re in that we try to get some pretty sharp commentary.”

The panel also revealed that the series would receive a new weekly aftershow called Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys, hosted by Aisha Tyler.
