CW President Confirms The Network Has Talked About Rebooting Gossip Girl

OMFG Upper East Siders! There were some loose lips at The CW TCA presentation and it looks like CW President  Mark Pedowitz confirmed that rebooting Gossip Girl has definitely been a conversation.

At the TV Critics’ Association press tour last week, Pedowitz said that the show’s revival is mostly contingent on if Warner Bros. and the executive producers of the series want to go through with it:

“There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet. I don’t know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and [exec producers] Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, ’cause you don’t want to do anything without them.”

This was quite literally the most that was said about it but the fact that there’s even a discussion seems interesting. The show celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2017 and ended its six-season run in 2012 so, on the one hand, it makes sense, but on the other, it feels a tad too soon to reboot the series. That being said, let’s look into any of our favorite Upper East Siders would be down to return.

Blake Lively told “Variety” in 2017 that she would be open to the idea of coming back in some capacity for a reboot:

“It sort of all depends. Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it’s hard work and I’ve got my babies, and I don’t want to be away from them that much. But I’ve just learned in life you never say never. I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows—if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City.”

Leighton Meester also took a never say never approach when discussing the issue in 2017 with “Vanity Fair”:

“I guess I hear that reunion talk in fits and starts here and there, but it’s hard to say. If everyone was into it and if the timing was right, you know? I don’t want to say, ‘No, never…’”

Chace Crawford seems down to do a reboot if it happened but also thinks that they have all aged out and that the network would definitely just recast with younger actors:

“I’d be open to talking about something. They’ll probably just reboot it and cast all new young kids. How are we going to do it? … At 35, I’m still at the high school there, wearing my uniform?”

Taylor Momsen doesn’t seem too interested as of 2014  but do we really need Jenny Humphrey back?

“I’m very lucky that the producers were nice enough to write me out, allow me to tour, and pursue my passion, because they very easily could have told me to go f–k myself and keep me on the show. I’m not looking to go back to it. Gossip Girl was a great experience, and it helped in one way and hurt in another, but it feels like forever ago.”

Penn Badgley, resident Gossip Girl naysayer, and star of the latest social media obsession, You, hasn’t always had the nicest things to say about being on the show but even our boy Dan Humphrey has at least mulled it over when he talked to “Marie Claire” last September:

. “I don’t think that could happen for maybe another 10 years because if you look at the shows that are being rebooted, they’re much older. I don’t think any of us are interested in that, the creators or the cast. I suppose you should never say never. I suppose there are conditions where I would. Do I think those conditions will ever exist? No. But they might.”

And what about our boy Chuck Bass? Well in an interview with “Radio Times” in May of 2017 he seemed to think Chuck was played out but Ed Westwick could maybe use the work now:

“Nah, that’s not gonna happen. I know there’s a bunch of them coming back – I hear they’re doing Will and Grace, they’ve done Gilmore Girls… But it’s such a strange thing to think about. It feels like we only just finished! And I haven’t done enough in between yet to feel like I could comfortably revisit it. And I did so much with that character – it’s played out, man. It’s done.”

There you have it Upper East Siders. Is it possible for the gang to get back together? That’s a secret I’ll be dying to tell if it happens. Until next time, you know you love me, XOXO…
