Paramount Pictures Lands Rights To Distribute Next Scream Film

Paramount Pictures has won the bid to co-produce the new Scream film with Spyglass Media Group. That means the familiar Dimension Films intro is no more & Scream will now be at the same home that originally launched the Friday The 13th franchise.

Targeted for release in 2021, Paramount will market and distribute the film worldwide in all media with select international territories and domestic pay 1 television being handled by Spyglass. Principal photography is expected to begin late summer in Wilmington NC. Additional casting updates will be announced in the coming weeks. As of now, we know that David Arquette is set to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey & the film will be directed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Neve Campbell has also been in active talks to return to the franchise as well but no official deal has been made as of yet for her to return as Sydney Prescott.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett will work with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who are co-writing the project. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are serving as producers while creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing. Despite Wes Craven not being able to be involved due to his passing, it seems like the franchise is in capable hands.

The Scream franchise has grossed more than $600 million worldwide across four films which makes it one of the most lucrative horror franchises of all-time. The franchise also spawned a TV show that ran three seasons.
