Henry Golding Set To Star In G.I. Joe Spinoff Snake Eyes

Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is set to topline his first big studio film. The actor has been cast to star in the G.I. Joe spinoff, Snake Eyes.

The new project is to be directed by Robert Schwentke with Evan Spiliotopoulos taking on writing duties. The spinoff will be focusing on the popular commando, Snake Eyes, a character that first appeared in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics’ relaunch of the toy line, dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

Paramount Pictures has already made two G.I. Joe movies, 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Ray Park, who famously played Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, played Snake Eyes in both of those films.

Henry Golding’s star has been on the rise since last year when Crazy Rich Asians became a breakout hit. Just a month after that film was released, the actor appeared in Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor, which also turned a modest profit. Golding will next be seen in Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke and in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen.
