Jack Nicholson to Star in American Toni Erdmann Remake

In his first feature film role since 2010, Jack Nicholson is coming back to the big screen in the American adaptation of German-Austrian comedy-drama, Toni Erdmann. He is set to play a practical joking father who tries to reconnect with his hardworking daughter, played by Kristen Wiig, by creating an outlandish alter ego and posing as her CEO’s life coach.

The adaptation will be produced by Adam McKay, Wiig, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum and distributed by Paramount Pictures. No word yet on who will write the screenplay or direct the project.

The original recently garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Feature this past January and has an Academy Award nomination in the same category. We’ll find out on February 26th if it wins the Oscar.

Toni Erdmann originally debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last May and is currently in theaters in limited release.
