The potential Black-ish spinoff, which will be featured as a backdoor pilot episode this season, has rounded out most of its cast. Anders Holm, Tika Sumpter & Arrica Himmel are among 7 performers that have been cast for the episode.
The backdoor pilot episode, which revolves around Rainbow’s growing up, takes place during the 1980s-90s. Himmel will play Rainbow, a younger version of the character played by Tracee Ellis Ross on Black-ish. Holm will play Paul, Bow’s father, Sumpter portrays Alicia, Bow’s mother.
Also, cast for the episode are Gary Cole (Veep), Ethan William Childress, Mykal-Michelle Harris (Big Little Lies 2) and Second City Chicago alum Christina Anthony. Childress is Johan, Harris will portray Santamonica, Cole is Harrison, Paul’s father, and Anthony is Denise, Alicia’s sister.
If you’re worried about Tika Sumpter’s role on OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots, don’t be. Sumpter will be continuing on the series. The midseason finale of the show airs tonight and returns in May while season 7 is set for 2020.
If this should go to series, the untitled Black-ish spinoff project would be the second Black-sh spinoff, joining Freeform’s Grown-ish.
