Paramount Pictures is making more release date changes after shifting Top Gun: Maverick from June to December. This is good news though, at least as good as it can be because A Quiet Place: Part II has a new release date after vacating its March 20 slot due to COVID-19.
The horror sequel will now open Labor Day weekend on September 4. This could be a great move because the early September corridor was very good to IT & IT: Chapter Two. All I can say about this move is at least it’s not shifting a year which has to be good news as several releases remain undated after delaying their releases.
Paramount also announced that The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will debut on July 31, instead of Memorial Day weekend, May 22. Lastly, with Top Gun moving to December 23, it knocks the Chris Pratt sci-fi Skydance movie, The Tomorrow War, to an unset date.
As I mentioned before, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is still dated for July 17 as is Jungle Cruise on July 24. Wonder Woman 1984 is the other high-profile release on the schedule, moving from June 5 to August 14. Other summer releases, to name a few, that haven’t moved dates yet are Artemis Fowl (Disney) – May 29, Candyman (Uni) – June 12, Soul (Dis) – June 19, Fatale (LG) – June 19 & The King of Staten Island (Uni)- June 19. I also believe there is an untitled Purge film on July 10.
