Val Kilmer Officially Returning For Top Gun 2

Iceman will fly again! Val Kilmer is officially returning to one of his most popular roles in the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Tom Cruise is also returning for the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, the film that launched the actor as a global star. In the original film, Iceman (real name: Tom Kazansky) was a rival to Maverick before the pair eventually became friends after earning each other’s respect.

Val Kilmer had been spotted around the San Diego hotel the studio has been using since production began last week but Paramount Pictures has declined to comment on his casting. Multiple sources associated with the production have confirmed to various media outlets that he is indeed returning.

Cruise recently tweeted a photo announcing that production had begun on Top Gun: Maverick. Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski will direct the sequel, which follows fighter pilots dealing with a world in which drone technology is making their old style of flying obsolete.
