In a bit of inspired casting, The CW has cast Nicollette Sheridan, a veteran of primetime soaps, as Alexis Carrington in their current reboot of Dynasty. The role was originally made famous by actress Joan Collins on the original hit 80s series.
The role of Alexis has only been alluded to on the current series and there is a hope that casting a familiar face from primetime soaps will do for this show what it did for the original 80s version. Collins devilish portrayal of Alexis is widely contributed to the growing popularity of the original series.
This marks the first regular gig for Sheridan since her Desperate Housewives character was killed off of that ABC series near the height of its popularity. Sheridan ended up suing over her firing from that series but was unsuccessful. Despite how she left the show, she was featured in 100+ episodes and that wasn’t even her biggest claim to fame on primetime TV. Sheridan played the role of Paige Matheson on another hit from the primetime soap genre, Knot’s Landing, for nearly a decade.
No word on an exact premiere date for the character but Sheridan begins filming in the new year and is expected to appear in the last few episodes of the season.
Despite being a modest live performer, the series quickly picked up a back nine order for season one, due in large part to its international appeal and a lucrative deal with Netflix. The series currently airs on Wednesday nights alongside The CW’s other hit series, Riverdale.
