The Turning Becomes The Second Film Of 2020 To Receive A “F” CinemaScore

January isn’t even over yet & we already have two films that have received the rare “F” CINEMASCORE. Unfortunately, they’re both horror films as The Grudge reboot earned the honor at the start of the month & now the just-released, The Turning, has been bestowed with the failing grade from moviegoers.

Including The Turning, only 21 movies have ever received an “F”, beginning with 1999’s Eye of the Beholder. The Turning and The Grudge are the first films to get an “F” since Darren Aronofsky’s unsettling psychological thriller mother! in 2017.

Starring Mackenzie Davis, Brooklyn Prince, Joely Richardson, and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard, The Turning is adapted from Henry James’ novel “The Turn of the Screw.” It follows the story of a young governess, played by Davis, who is sent to a remote mansion to watch over two orphans following their parents’ deaths. There was a feeling after Thursday night previews that things could go this way. The film is 13% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes & the audience score actually matched that. The Twitter reaction was also pretty savage with many users tearing the film apart for its rather abrupt ending.
