While some view it as a surprise, this news does not come as a shock as Solo: A Star Wars will lose 50 plus million dollars for Disney. Solo is badly underperforming and will become the first of the Star Wars movies made by Disney and Lucasfilm to lose money. The film which cost about 250 million to make after reshooting the film after hiring Ron Howard to direct the film.
It was reported by Wall Street analyst Barton Crockett says Solo will lose more than $50 million. Industry financing souces, however, say that figure could come in at $80 million or higher. This could change once the film is released on blu-ray/dvd where the film could perform well to lessen the loss for Disney.
Solo isn’t likely to gross much more than $400 million globally against a budget of at least $250 million and a major multimillion-dollar marketing spend. No word if Disney is second guessing future origin Star Wars stories.
