As the Super Bowl approaches, the popular commercials are getting ready to air to the masses this Sunday, however, this year’s commercials won’t include as many Hollywood movie promos as in past years.
Because of the high cost of a 30-second spot at $5 million, there could be as few as three or four film commercials this year. Disney is expected to have the biggest presence and will showcase several of its upcoming films throughout Super Bowl Sunday. It’s unclear how many Disney ads will be seen during the game itself, versus during the pregame or postgame shows, which cost about half as much.
While fans would love a Star Wars spot, it is unlikely that Disney will be dishing out a teaser for the film. It is likely that Disney may be promoting spots for its upcoming slate, Captain Marvel, followed by Dumbo, Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4 and Artemis Fowl.
Aside from Disney, Universal is the only other major studio that’s guaranteed to have a presence during Sunday’s game as it is expected to promote the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw. Paramount will use the pregame show to showcase Wonder Park (March 15), just as it did last year for box office hit A Quiet Place.
