Before Judy hit Telluride with its premiere, there had been many negative things stated regarding the portrayal of Garland by her daughter Liza Minnelli. In 2018, Minnelli wrote on Facebook
“I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger . . .”
“I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”
#Judy has some issues but Renee Zelwegger singing “By Myself” is the kind of Oscar clip where you feel bad for all the other nominated actresses #TellurideFilmFestival

Renee Zellweger gives a career-best, heartbreaking performance in @JudyTheFilm – covers the rainbow of emotions and the tragic pain of her life. Really touching #Telluride #TellurideFilmFestival

Renée Zellweger gives a jaw-dropping portrayal in a sometimes choppy, sometimes brilliant film. Her volcanic, tour-de-force performance is one for the ages, and is absolutely worthy of a second Oscar. #judymovies #tff46 #TellurideFilmFestival #ReneeZellweger #judygarland

While the film is mostly being viewed as a by the books bio-pic, similarly to last years Bohemian Rhapsody, whose lead Rami Malek took home the Lead Actor Oscar last year, Renee Zellwegger seems like the new front runner in Lead Actress as the Oscar Season commences.
