Spider-Man: Far From Home Opens To $111 Million In China, Japan & Hong Kong

Spider-Man: Far From Home swung into the international box office ahead of its domestic launch and it had a particularly super weekend in China, Japan & Hong Kong.

Spider-Man: Far From Home grossed $111 million from its early start in China, Japan & Hong Kong. China was especially robust with a gross of $98 million which gives it the No. 4 all-time superhero launch behind Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, and Sony/Marvel’s Venom.

Japan was also significant for the new film and it was graced with the 2nd best superhero debut of the last decade (behind Endgame). In Hong Kong, Spider-Man swung in with the 5th biggest FSS opening of all time and the best ever for a standalone superhero movie as well as Sony’s top launch ever.

The total launch in these three overseas markets sets the web-slinger 45% over Spider-Man: Homecoming and 21% above Captain Marvel in the like-for-likes. The start bodes well for its international performance with some thinking the film could see $500 million for its global debut this week.

Spider-Man: Far From Home opens on the domestic front, Tuesday, July 2. There will be no previews held today for the film so it gets its full bow started tomorrow.
