South Park Renewed Through 2022 At Comedy Central

South Park has been a pop culture mainstay since 1997 and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Comedy Central has renewed the adult animated series through 2022.

The renewal will take it to season 26 & a staggering 327 episodes. Season 23 of the longest-running scripted cable series is set to premiere on September 25. South Park will hit the 300th episode milestone during its upcoming season.

South Park still trails The Simpsons by four seasons in terms of the longest-running animated series of all time. The Simpsons has run longer, having premiered in 1989 but South Park has shorter seasons and can crank them out faster due to the style of animation. The Simpsons typically has a full 22-episode broadcast season.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, something they have done since the series’ creation in 1997. “Apparently, our efforts to get our own show canceled have fallen short,” joked Parker and Stone in a statement. “Luckily, we love Comedy Central and Kent Alterman and our staff so we are looking forward to new cancellation opportunities in the next few years.”
