One of my favorite shows on television is coming back for one last season. It has been announced that TNT has renewed Animal Kingdom for a sixth & final season.
The season six renewal comes ahead of the drama’s fifth season, which will return in the summer. Animal Kingdom was not able to return for its traditional summer run because of the pandemic with season four wrapping up in August 2019. Season five, which recently returned to production, will premiere this coming summer. The final season is looking at a start in the summer of 2022. Animal Kingdom is still going strong on TNT and is one of their top performers. It’s one of TNT’s last scripted original shows as the network seems to be stepping away from scripted programming. As far as ratings are concerned, Animal Kingdom was a top 10 cable drama among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo and total viewers in 2019.
The series, which stars Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole, Leila George, Rigo Sanchez, and Jon Beavers, centers on a Southern California family, whose excessive lifestyle is fueled by their criminal activities. Season five will focus on the fallout after Smurf’s (series lead Ellen Barkin) surprising death in season four. The show will also flashback to 1984 and follow a young Smurf forging her own path while raising two kids.
