When the trailer for the Sonic The Hedgehog movie was dropped, there were many complaints. Why are they using “Gangsta’s Paradise” in the trailer? Why was this even made in the first place? Why is James Marsden in this? But the biggest complaint was the look of Sonic & congrats cinephiles! You complained so much about the design that the film has been delayed by 3 months to get the look right.
Director Jeff Fowler announced on Twitter today that the film, which Paramount is banking on as an event movie, is zooming from its November 8 release to February 14, 2020, next year so that the production can work further on character redesign.
Sonic moves away from Universal’s female romantic comedy Last Christmas, Lionsgate’s Roland Emmerich WWII pic Midway, and Warner Bros. Shining follow-up Doctor Sleep on November 8. The video game adaptation will now run up against Disney/Fox’s untitled Kingsman movie and Universal’s The Photograph.
The trailer for Sonic actually clocked in views of over 31 million which is pretty impressive but when most of the criticism is negative, changed have to be made. Fowler originally said the redesign could be finished before the November 8 release date but I guess after consideration, that is no longer the case.
