Southside With You A Bust at the Box Office

Southside with You was a complete bust at the box office this weekend. Ranking at #14 in its premiere week, it only made $2.9 million just enough to cover its $1.5 million budget.

Starring Parker Sawyers as pre-POTUS and Tika Sumpter as Michelle, Southside with You focuses on the couple’s first date in Chicago in 1989. Obama is a young associate trying to win the heart of young lawyer, Michelle Robinson. What ensues is their date to an Afro-Centric exhibit, a screening of Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing and their first kiss at an ice cream parlor. The film was written and directed by Richard Tanne in his feature film directorial debut.
