Spider-Man: Far From Home Enters Box Office Tracking With $150 Million+ Holiday Opening

Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into the box office arena two days before the July 4th weekend and, according to box office tracking, it’s going to have a very huge debut.

The Marvel sequel will play over the six-day holiday weekend and is projected to open in the range of $150-160 million over that time period. The studio is predicting an opening at about $154 million but of course, this can all change (higher or lower) depending on reviews and advanced word of mouth. The film is coming off of the success of Avengers: Endgame so there is expected to be a more of an interest in the Spider-Man sequel due to that film.

Many box office insiders think that once Marvel and Sony truly start their marketing push, tracking could surge as high as $180 million and that’s only here in the states. International interest is sure to be huge as well so a big global debut is also in play. Even if it debuts at the low-end of tracking, Far From Home is looking to surpass opening earnings of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which bowed to $117 million over its three-day 2017 opening and went on to earn $880 million globally.

Far From Home will end the MCU’s phase three and picks up where Avengers: Endgame left off, with the Earth’s mightiest heroes having defeated Thanos. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, who goes on a vacation in Europe with his friends only to be enlisted by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to help save the world. Jon Watts is back in the director’s chair for the feature, which sees Jake Gyllenhaal join the franchise as Mysterio.
