Solo: A Star Wars Story Tracking Towards $170 million+ Over Memorial Day Weekend

Box office tracking for Solo: A Star Wars Story has finally hit and it looks like it’s going to make a huge impression when it’s released over Memorial Day weekend.

Solo is tracking so strong that its unaided score of 28 is higher than that of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($155 million, 23 score) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5 million, 23). Unaided awareness indicates how strong the buzz is on a title among those who are unprompted in polling and it’s a priceless stat off which studios buy their TV ads. Definite interest of 55 is higher than Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s 53 and that film opened to $117 million. Males under and over 25 are the dominant demo for Solo. The tracking suggests that Solo is headed for a weekend of $170 million+.

That being said, these are all estimates and we all know how box office tracking can fluctuate. Sometimes films can come in under tracking while big-budget studio films, with good buzz, can sometimes surpass their initial tracking. The Stars Wars brand is strong and should never be underestimated while Memorial Day weekend is a prime time for release since it’s a holiday weekend and could see families coming out strong for the film. Should Solo debut to expectations, that’s still phenomenal for a Memorial Day release considering the top two openings belong to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End ($139.8 million) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($126.9 million).
