A sequel to Shazam! is officially happening and now New Line and Warner Bros. have set a release date for the film.
Shazam! 2 will hit screens on April 1, 2022. No, this doesn’t appear to be a cheap April Fools joke, the sequel is officially set for that date which puts it about two days under 3 years between itself and the original film. Released on April 3 of this year, Shazam! went on to become a global hit, grossing $364 million at the worldwide box office.
Zachary Levi will reprise the title character while David F. Sandberg will be back as director. Henry Gayden, who co-wrote the first script, is writing the latest draft. Other members of the creative team from the original are also expected to return for the sequel.
