At a tastemakers screening of his latest film, Live by Night, Ben Affleck revealed to Variety some new details on the upcoming The Batman. In the film, not only will he be reprising his role as the caped crusader, but he’ll be behind the camera directing the project. Affleck mentioned that the film will begin shooting this spring.
“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
Since this isn’t the first time Batman has been on the big screen, Affleck made mention that he is aware of all the depictions and had nothing but praise and admiration for the directors that have come before him.
“I respect all of those [Batman] movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”
We estimate that The Batman will hit theaters in late 2018.
