Is this more Shaft than you can handle? Well, you better figure it out because we have the first trailer and movie poster for the upcoming Shaft sequel of sorts. While it’s not labeled as Shaft 2, it brings back Samuel L. Jackson from the 2000 reboot and features Richard Roundtree, who originated the role in the 70s and brings in a younger generation as well.
This latest movie sees Samuel L. Jackson reuniting with his estranged son, who now works as a cybersecurity agent for the FBI and needs his help, leading to a clashing of ideologies. Samuel L. Jackson returns as John Shaft II, who made his debut in the 2000 live-action movie, alongside original Shaft star Richard Roundtree and franchise newcomer Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), who plays the estranged son of Jackson’s character. Regina Hall (Girls Trip), whose character hasn’t yet been revealed, is also featured.
The 2000 Shaft was directed by John Singleton and was a modest success, grossing $104 million worldwide. Samuel L. Jackson’s box office clout has only grown in the nearly 20 years since the film was released so this incarnation could prove to be a true box office contender.
Shaft hits screens on June 14. Check out the movie poster below:
