Revenge Revival Being Set Up As Potential Anthology Series At ABC

A couple of months ago it was announced that ABC was interested in reviving their hit series, Revenge, with a Latinx twist and now we have learned more about the possible revival if it happens to make it beyond the development stage.

ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke had this to say about their plans to turn the revival into more of an anthology series:

“The idea would be in that series to do a different revenge story each cycle. Revenge becomes the narrative like an anthology.”

The new version, which is written by original series creators Mike Kelley and Joe Fazzio, chronicles the story of a young Latinx immigrant. Guided by one of the original series’ favorite characters, she arrives in Malibu to exact revenge on a pharmaceutical dynasty, whose insatiable greed lead to the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic.

The original series ran from 2011-2015 and starred Emily VanCamp and Madeleine Stowe. The show was inspired by the Alexandre Dumas novel “The Count of Monte Cristo” and featured VanCamp as a young woman who comes to the Hamptons to exact revenge on a wealthy family who had framed her father. The series was a breakout hit for ABC when it premiered but it ended its run after four seasons and 90 episodes when its linear ratings began to slip. Despite its live numbers taking a hit over time, the show remained a fan favorite and was a huge international seller for ABC.
