Reel TV Ratings: The Grammys Hit All-Time Low In The 18-49 Demo

All the networks took the night off as CBS celebrated music’s biggest night with the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. There was a big hoopla about the ceremony returning to New York but viewers seemed to not really care.

The Grammys delivered a 5.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 19.81 million viewers. That’s down 24 percent in both adults 18-49 and viewers vs. last year’s awards. It’s the lowest 18-49 rating the Grammys have ever recorded and the least-watched ceremony since 2009. Last year the preliminary figures were 23 million and 7.3, which adjusted up to 26.07 million and 7.8.

What could’ve caused the drop? Maybe it was the massive 3 and a half hour length of the ceremony or perhaps it was because viewers saw the music being overshadowed by potential political statements? This will be debated for a bit, I’m sure, but despite the decline, it’s still a demo score that networks would dream of in this day and age so no one is crying too much for CBS.
