I must’ve been living under a rock because I had no clue that Sicario was getting a sequel but a teaser trailer for Sicario 2: Soldado has been released much to my surprise.
In the sequel, the drug war on the U.S./Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. Federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio del Toro) join forces to fight the war.
The first film was released in 2015 with a reported budget of around $30 million and grossed $84.8 million worldwide when it ended its run. That one came out in the fall and became a sleeper hit. The sequel has a June 29, 2018, release date so Sony must feel pretty confident in this one to give a summer release.
