Reel Box Office Update: Star Wars, Jumanji & Pitch Perfect 3 Continue To Rule Holiday Box Office.

Tuesday estimates are in and it’s clear that Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle & Pitch Perfect 3 are the movie choices for moviegoers over the long holiday box office that will continue to see these films performing well as we head into the new year.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi increased about 2% over its Christmas Day gross to an estimated $28.1 million. Among all Tuesdays, Last Jedi‘s is the fourth best ever following Force Awakens ($37.3 million, Dec. 22), 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man ($35 million), and Force Awakens again (Dec. 29, $29.5 million). The film now has a running domestic tally of $423.7 million.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle dipped slightly from its Christmas gross of $19 million to $17.1 million. The $90 million film has now grossed $89.1 million to date and has a lot more money to make in the days ahead. Keep in mind the original film grossed a total of $100 million in 1995, taking 17 weekends to do so. The box office has certainly changed since then.

Pitch Perfect 3 also saw an increase from its Christmas day gross of $6.4 million with an estimated Tuesday take of $7.4 million. The domestic tally is now at $33.9 million and the reason for its increase is likely because the target audience is still on vacation, which should see it performing relatively steady in the days ahead.

The Greatest Showman saw a dip from its Christmas take of $5.6 million to a Tuesday gross of $5.1 million. That’s still a decent hold on the film as its holding steady. That being said, I think Fox needed a bigger start from this film to make more of an impact but there are still days left for the film to make some money so we will have to keep an eye on this one. Its domestic take is now at $24.1 million.

All The Money In The World dipped from its Christmas debut of $2.6 million to 1.7 million. The Rotten Tomatoes score uptick to 80% today but perhaps the subject matter is only appealing to the older set and not many others. This one could still be a slow burn so it’s not out of play completely but we’ll have to see how it holds heading into the weekend.

Check back tomorrow as we continue to look at the holiday box office and where it’s headed!
