New York Undercover Reboot Not Moving Forward At ABC, Being Shopped Elsewhere

ABC has decided to pass on the reboot of New York Undercover. The revival of the 1990s Dick Wolf cop drama is looked at highly by Universal TV and they are looking to shop the series elsewhere.

New York Undercover was one of two ABC drama pilots this year that reboot well-known ’90s cop dramas. NYPD Blue was the other series in consideration and while it’s not going forward for fall consideration, it is being tweaked and retooled to be looked at for midseason.

The rebooted New York Undercover was headlined by original star Malik Yoba, who was reprising his role as J.C. Williams. Yoba was joined by fellow core original cast member Luna Lauren Velez, who is reprising her role as Nina Moreno, retired as a detective but still keeping ties to the unit.

The reboot picks up 20 years after the original series and will follow detectives Nat Gilmore and Melissa Ortiz as they investigate the city’s most dangerous criminals from Harlem to Battery Park.

The original series, which aired for four seasons, starred Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as undercover detectives, marking the first police drama on U.S. television to feature two people of color in starring roles. Velez joined in Season 2 and remained on the show until its end.
