New Mutants Gets New 2020 Release Date

Marvel’s New Mutants has yet another release date. The film, which seems to have the mutant ability to not maintain a release date, is being pushed to 2020.

Disney has announced release dates for their film slate through 2027 and they also include releases that they acquired in the Fox merger. One of those films is New Mutants and it looks like it’s accounted for among their planned release schedule.

New Mutants debuted its first trailer in October of 2017. Hard to believe it has been that long ago but that’s how long the film has been on our radar and in perpetual release limbo. The original release date was for April 2018 but it was then shifted to August of this year. There are apparently reshoots that still need to be done and as we get closer to the summer, it has been reported that these reshoots have yet to take place. It looks like the new date of April 2020, will give them some time to get these reshoots done.

The fact that Disney has announced this release date makes be a bit more confident that this one will stick. New Mutants will be the last Marvel film that was under the Fox banner as Deadpool 3, whenever it should happen, will likely be rolled into the MCU. X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens on June 7 but after that film comes and goes, Disney is likely to reboot X-Men so they can also be added into the MCU. New Mutants is essentially the last of the leftovers from Fox and Disney could’ve easily scrapped it but maybe there is something worth salvaging here.
