New Amsterdam Renewed For Season 2 At NBC

NBC has renewed New Amsterdam for a second season. The medical drama has proven a reliable performer following This Is Us on Tuesday nights, regularly leading its time period among adults 18-49.

The series is averaging a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.9 million viewers with seven days of delayed viewing. The show’s 18-49 rating doubles after a week, and its total audience grows by 86 percent.

New Amsterdam is the No. 2 first-year scripted series in the 18-49 demo behind another NBC show, Manifest. It’s also NBC’s first rookie series to be renewed for season 2 this season. The series is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” and his 15 years as medical director of the hospital. The show follows Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), the newest medical director of the fictional New Amsterdam hospital, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.

The series, which also stars Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine, was also the first new series to receive a full season order this season.
