Grand Hotel Has So-So Ratings Start

Networks are a bit easier on their summer series in terms of their ratings performance but ABC will likely be paying close attention to their new series Grand Hotel because it merely got off to a so-so start on Monday.

The good news for the network is that it won Monday night in the overall ratings thanks to The Bachelorette which held steady with 5.5 million viewers and a 1.5 adults 18-49 Live+same day rating.

This lead-in didn’t quite carry over to the Eva Longoria-produced Grand Hotel, which followed with 3.72 million viewers tuning in and a 0.7 demo rating. This is honestly respectable by summer standards but it just doesn’t really leave much room for the show to fall if it happens to see a decline. Social media buzz on the series is strong though and I’m sure DVR numbers will also be looked at for the series as it continues its run. It marks the highest-rated summertime drama debut in nearly 2 years among Adults 18-49, since NBC’s Midnight, Texas in 2017. Grand Hotel also premiered as ABC’s top summertime drama in 4 years among Adults 18-49 – since The Astronaut Wives Club in 2015.

Grand Hotel was originally intended as a mid-season replacement but was pushed to the summer because the network felt the series could skew younger and get a better audience. The show takes a look at the professional and personal lives of people working at a family-run hotel in Miami Beach.
