Marvel’s Runaways To End With Season 3 At Hulu

Marvel’s Runaways has run its course at Hulu. The streamer announced that the series will end with season 3 as Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb era of shows continues to dwindle.

The series returns on December 13 for its final season and it becomes the latest Loeb-developed Marvel TV series to come to an end. Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger was canceled back in October after two seasons and FX’s Legion ended its run earlier this year. ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  is still around but it ends its run in 2020. There was also a planned straight-to-series live-action Ghost Rider project that was in development but it was ultimately scrapped. Loeb still has Hulu’s Helstrom and a slate of four animated series in the works.

The plan moving forward is to have the rest of Marvel’s TV series produced by the comic book powerhouses’ film division that is overseen by none other than Kevin Feige. These include the Disney+ live-action spinoffs of its Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the plan is to make them the cornerstone of the shows they launch moving forward. The shows that are on the way include Loki, WandaVision, Falcon & the Winter Soldier, A Hawkeye series as well as What If, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk & Moon Knight. All of these projects will be overseen by Feige and not Loeb.

With Runaways leaving the lineup, The streamers scripted roster includes The Orville (recently imported from Fox), High Fidelity, Little Fires Everywhere, Pen15, Ramy, Shrill, Solar Opposites, Dollface, Reprisal, and The Handmaid’s Tale, among others. As for Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who developed Runaways, this concludes the duo’s previous deal with ABC Studios. The duo also has Hulu limited series Looking for Alaska and has two TV overall deals that include a first-look pact at Apple and a broadcast-only deal with CBS TV Studios.
