Mark Wahlberg is in final negotiations to co-star with Tom Holland in Uncharted, Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of the bestselling PlayStation action-adventure video game.
Tom Holland has long been attached to star in the film but it has seen its fair share of hurdles when it lost its first director Dan Trachtenberg due to creative differences. The project got back on track when director Travis Knight, best known for directing Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings for his Laika animation studio, officially took over directing duties and it probably helped that Sony/Marvel squared away all that Tom Holland/Spider-Man fighting with Holland reportedly using his leverage starring in this film to make sure a proper deal was put back into place between the two studios.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin sometime next year and if the deal with Wahlberg moves along as hoped, he’d play Sully, a mentor to Holland’s Nathan Drake character who grows into a prolific treasure hunter. The film is the first feature production of Sony’s PlayStation Productions, which was set up on the lot last year by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. The Uncharted video game series created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation has sold more than 41 million copies.
