Magic 8-Ball Movie Coming From Blumhouse & The Director Of Truth Or Dare

I just want to start this story off by saying I love Blumhouse. This is a production company that clearly loves horror and horror fans and by letting filmmakers do their films on the cheap, they allow their talent to have their vision without interfering. I feel like horror is better because of Blumhouse.

That being said, Blumhouse can also occasionally release a clunker (I’m looking at you The Gallows) and this next Blumhouse release sounds like it could be one but I’ll save my judgment until I learn more. It has been announced that Blumhouse has commissioned a film inspired by the Magic 8-Ball. Nope…that isn’t a misprint.

Blumhouse has toyed with movies inspired by games before (Ouija, Ouija: Origin of Evil & Truth or Dare) so it’s no wonder that they have chosen the director of the latter to helm their take on the Magic 8-Ball. Jeff Wadlow will be taking on directing duties and Mattel Films, who will also be partnering on the film, had this to say about taking on the project:

“Since the 1950s, Magic 8-Ball has inspired imagination, suspense, and intrigue across generations. This iconic toy has a built-in connection with fans and untapped potential for storytelling. There are no partners better suited to tell the Magic 8-Ball story in collaboration with Mattel Films than Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions, whose unique approach to the thriller genre has captivated audiences worldwide and has gained widespread accolades.”

It’s unclear how the film will tackle taking on the toy but, in case you weren’t exposed to it as a kid, it contains a number of responses inside of it and, when someone asks it a question and shakes it, one of these answers is revealed to them. I make fun of Blumhouse taking this on but they seem like the right studio for it. Truth or Dare registered a very rotten score of 15% but made $95 million worldwide on a $4 million budget. Look out guys, Pogs may be next.
