Liam Neeson has signed on to star in new independent thriller Retribution. It is a remake of the Spanish film El Desconocido. The original film tells the story of a bank executive, Carlos (Luis Tosar), who receives an anonymous call while on the way to drop off his kids at school. The caller states that a bomb has been placed underneath each of their seats and will explode upon anyone of them leaving.
This new adaptation will be written by Chris Salmanpour and Andrew Baldwin and will follow a similar premise in that Neeson will play a well off Wall Street executive who is told by an anonymous caller that bombs have been in his car, which he is driving with his family beside him. He must follow a series of increasingly harrowing instructions or else the bombs will go off.
A director has not yet been attached to the project and shooting is expected to start this fall.
