After finding out that Leslie Jones won’t be returning to Saturday Night Live, it has been announced that Kate McKinnon will be making a return for the 45th season.
Apparently, talks came down to the wire for the popular member of the cast. McKinnon’s contract was up in May so she’s been in talks to return since then, with many thinking she wouldn’t return because how many offers she has garnered after eight seasons on the late-night sketch comedy program. McKinnon is arguably the most heralded of the current castmembers, having won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her various performances.
What’s unclear is if McKinnon will be on the 45th season full-time. During her time on SNL, McKinnon broke out in movies with several starring roles, including Ghostbusters in which she starred with departing cast member Leslie Jones. McKinnon also is set to lead and executive produce The Dropout, a limited series for Hulu about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos.
Season 45 of SNL premieres on September 28 with Woody Harrelson, in his fourth appearance as host, and musical guest Billie Eilish.
