Rest easy soap fans. Despite releasing the entire cast from their contracts last week, NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives for a 56th season.
Budget renegotiations are still ongoing but the deal is very close to closing to bring the soap back. The fan outcry was pretty vocal as many were concerned that since the cast was being released from their contracts, it was a sing that the show was close to being canceled. I mentioned when we first posted this story that this was more of a negotiation tactic rather than a sign the show was ending and that has turned out to be true. Sony Pictures TV and Corday Productions began talking with the cast soon after the story broke about contracts and while no official details are being released about who is coming back, it seems like these talks are going smoothly.
The current season of Days of Our Lives is currently in its 55th season and shooting is set to wrap this month. Production is eight months ahead of what is currently being shown on screen so the soap has enough footage to get it to the summer of 2020.
Days of Our Lives is one of four remaining soaps still on daytime TV which also includes CBS’ The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful and ABC’s General Hospital. Days of Our Lives is currently averaging 2 million daily viewers which is the smallest audience of the four soaps.
