Jay Hernandez cast as Magnum P.I

It what may come as the most surprising casting choice of the day, CBS chosen the heir to Tom Selleck’s P.I throne. Jay Hernandez has been cast to play the title role in its reboot of Magnum P.I., one of several remakes CBS is considering for the upcoming 2018-19 TV season.

Hernandez will play Thomas Magnum, who is described for the upcoming reboot as a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator.

The pilot will be set in Hawaii, with Justin Lin directing the episode. This will be the first network series Hernandez has landed since Fox’s Gang Related. The project is being produced by CBS Television Studios and Universal Television.
