Star Trek: Beyond to reveal Sulu is Gay

Fans of Star Trek will have a reveal not many were expecting as Sulu will be revealed as the franchise’s first LGBT character in the upcoming film Star Trek:Beyond.

The decscion was made by director Justin Lin and writer Simon Pegg as an homage to George TakaiTakei is well known in recent years for his LGBT activism.

John Cho spoke about this decision stating,  “In Beyond,” Sulu will be shown as both a loving husband and father, and in typical “Trek” fashion, it won’t be treated as a big deal.

“I liked the approach, which was not to make a big thing out it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations.”
