Janelle Monáe To Headline Season 2 Of Homecoming

Amazon has found the actress to replace Julia Roberts on Homecoming. Janelle Monae will lead the second season of the Amazon limited series and the streamer has also revealed plot details for the second season.

Monae will play a tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is. The second season will deviate from the popular Gimlet Media’s podcast which Season 1 was based on and will introduce new characters.

Amazon gave Homecoming a two-season order and while Roberts received critical acclaim for her participation in season 1, the actress opted not to re-up for a second season and stuck to her initial one-season deal for the show. Roberts is continuing as an executive producer on the series.

It has not been confirmed if other performers from the first season will return but reports suggest that Bobby Cannavale, Stephan James, Hong Chau and possibly Shea Whigham are looking good for a return for season 2.

Directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, the first season focused on Heidi Bergman (Roberts), a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition back to civilian life. Walter Cruz (James) is one of these soldiers, eager to begin the next phase of his life. Overseeing Heidi and the facility is Colin Belfast (Cannavale), an ambitious company man whose manic demands point to questionable motives.
