Showtime will lose one of its long-running series, according to its star. Claire Danes says that that upcoming 8th season of Homeland will be its last. She announced the news on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show.
A representative for Showtime said that the network has not made a decision beyond season eight. The drama is currently airing its seventh season, the finale for which is set to air on April 29. Despite the network’s denials, Danes statement of “Yeah, that’s it”, when Stern brought up that fact that the next season is rumored to be the drama’s last, seems pretty definite.
Showtime renewed Homeland for a seventh and eighth season ahead of its sixth season premiere. The network has been reluctant to say that Homeland will end after that because there’s been talk with keeping the show going with a new showrunner and new cast.
Danes elaborated further about letting the character on Stern’s radio show by saying this:
“I mean, I’ll be ready. She’s a lot, this Carrie-freakin’ Mathison character. It’s a workout, so I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that.”
Danes also revealed that she’s pregnant with her second child with husband Hugh Dancy and made it clear that the pregnancy will not affect the alleged final season of the show.
