God Friended Me Has OK Start On CBS Sunday Night Thanks To NFL Boost

The heavens were on the side of CBS, at least a little bit, with the premiere of their new series God Friended Me. God may have played a part but it was really the NFL that gave the show a bit of an assist.

The show, which premiered at 8:43 p.m. ET after CBS’ primetime lineup was pushed back for a late-ending football game, is currently at a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and about 10.4 million viewers. Those numbers are likely to change some in the final ratings, but they’re fairly close to where Wisdom of the Crowd debuted in the same spot a year ago (1.3, 8.83 million viewers). Following God Friended Me, NCIS: Los Angeles (1.1 demo rating, 8.68 million viewers, pending updates) came in lower than last season’s debut of 1.3.

On Fox, the season 30 premiere of The Simpsons benefited from an NFL overrun, scoring a 1.8 in the 18-49 demo and 4.85 million viewers, also pending updates. That’s up from 1.4 for its 2017 premiere. Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy each scored 1.2 demo scores with Bob’s Burgers hitting 2.61 million viewers and Family Guy registering 2.66 million viewers. Rel made its time-period debut with a 0.8 demo rating and 1.97 million viewers, slightly below the 0.9 for The Last Man on Earth in the same spot in 2017.
