It was coming down to the wire, but the Hollywood Foreign Press & NBC has nailed down not one, but two hosts for the 76th Golden Globe Awards. Andy Samberg & Sandra Oh have landed co-hosting duties for the 2019 awards ceremony.
Samberg, whose Brooklyn Nine-Nine is headed to Globes’ headquarters on NBC after five seasons on FOX, has hosted ceremonies in the past, including the 2015 Emmy Awards which was warmly received. He was also a regular on NBC’s SNL from 2005-2012. Sandra Oh is the interesting choice of the duo but her snarky quickness was a highlight during her time on Grey’s Anatomy and she’s the star of the 2018 breakout series, Killing Eve.
Samberg and Oh partnered recently as co-presenters at the Primetime Emmy Awards in September, which aired on NBC. Their bit drew laughs from the crowd and it was one of the more well-received moments of the telecast from critics. I’m guessing NBC bosses took notice of this and started thinking of the duo as a possibility due to their effective chemistry.
This is only the second time the Golden Globes has been hosted by a duo, following the three-year stint of Samberg’s former Saturday Night Live colleagues Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The 76th Golden Globes ceremony will air live coast to coast on NBC from the Beverly Hills Hotel at 8 PM
