In a best of both worlds situation, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are heading to a galaxy, far, far away as they are set to write and produce a new series of Star Wars films, Disney announced.
The new series will be separate from the main episodic Skywalker saga and will also exist independently from a Rian Johnson-helmed series that was announced last year. Kathleen Kennedy, issued a statement which she said,
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today, Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
Benioff and Weiss will not take the duties of writing the new series until Game Of Thrones concludes. They released a joint statement stating,
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is complete.”
With the overwhelming success of Game Of Thrones, the edition of Benioff and Weiss is a great addition for Disney and the Star Wars franchise.
