Fox Searchlight is set to back reboot of the Julia Roberts thriller, Sleeping With The Enemy. The project is part of a new producing deal with producer Damian Jones.
Not a lot is known about the reboot but Jones has chosen emerging U.S. filmmaker Nia DaCosta as writer-director of the Sleeping With The Enemy “reimagining.” DaCosta had her 2018 debut with Little Woods, which starred Lily James and Tessa Thompson as sisters driven to work outside the law to better their lives.
Sleeping With The Enemy, based on Nancy Price’s 1987 novel of the same name, was released in 1991 at the height of Julia Robert’s popularity as America’s then sweetheart was coming off the success of 1990’s Pretty Woman. In the film, Roberts played a woman trying to escape her abusive husband. The combination of Roberts and the early 90s obsession with adult thrillers allowed that $20 million film to gross a staggering $175 million worldwide.
