Xena: Warrior Princess Reboot Dead at NBC

While there was excitement for the reboot, NBC’s Xena: Warrior Princess reboot is not going forward. After  Javier Grillo-Marxuach parted ways with NBC a few months back, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke has stated that the reboot is dead.

“Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn’t warrant the reboot,”I’d never say never on that one because it’s such a beloved title, but the current incarnation of it is dead.”

Grillo-Marxuach announced that he had exited the project in April, citing creative differences. His vision for a Xena revival suggested that he would have explored the romantic relationship that existed between Xena and her sidekick, Gabrielle, which would have not been the best way to take this reboot. This is different from  what Grillo-Marxuach said in March 2016.

“There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s,”

This may not have been the proper way to bring back the character, therefore, it may have been a blessing that the show will not come back.
