Ewan McGregor In Talks To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again In Disney+ Series

It looks like Ewan MacGregor is once again prepared to journey to a galaxy far, far away. The actor is in talks to reprise the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a Disney+ series.

The character played a central role in the George Lucas-directed prequels, which recount the origin of Darth Vader and his betrayal of Kenobi and the Jedis. In 2017 it was revealed that Disney/Lucasfilm was developing a feature spin-off for the character, to have been directed by Stephen Daldry, the Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours. However, those plans and other movie entries were shelved after the poor performance of another Star Wars spin-off, Solo: A Star Wars Story, in summer 2018.

Disney+ and Lucasfilm are already making The Mandalorian, based on the class of warriors and bounty hunters first embodied by fan-favorite Boba Fett, and an untitled series characterized as a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One featuring Rebel Alliance officer Cassian Andor, with Diego Luna reprising the role. No timeline or creative talent for the Kenobi show were revealed as of this writing.
