The Connors Premieres Behind Roseanne But Still Strong On Tuesday

Most headlines will point to the fact that The Connors premiered well behind the debut of the Roseanne revival but the newly retooled series was still a strong performer on Tuesday and posted numbers that would make any network proud.

On ABC, The Conners took  the no. 1 spot in the Tuesday night ratings, scoring a 2.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 10.46 million viewers. While this led the night, it was (predictably) well below the massive 5.2 that the premiere of the Roseanne revival scored earlier this year. It was only down a tenth from the 2.5 of the Roseanne finale as well. The series now ranks as the season’s highest-rated series debut, beating out NBC’s Manifest for the top spot. It was followed by the series premiere of The Kids Are Alright which scored a solid 1.4 in the demo and 6.58 million viewers, making it the second highest-rated freshman comedy premiere this year, behind only The Conners. Black-ish (1.1, 4.53 million viewers) returned down a tenth from its May season finale, while Splitting Up Together (1.0, 3.73 million viewers) returned even with its first season finale. Rounding out the night for ABC was the series premiere of the Nathan Fillion-led The Rookie which posted a 1.0 demo rating and 5.38 million viewers, retaining 100% of its Splitting Up lead-in, and tying the Kevin (Probably) Saves the World premiere in the same time slot last year.

On FOX, The Gifted fell to a series low 0.6 and 1.95 million viewers, while Lethal Weapon maintained its previous 0.7 demo score and 2.91 million viewers.

On NBC, The Voice (1.7, 8.82 million viewers) was down a tenth from last Tuesday, as was This is Us (2.2, 8.86 million viewers), which turned over top Tuesday show honors to The Connors this week. New Amsterdam also had another ratings slip, falling from a 1.4 to a 1.2 and 6.38 million viewers this week.

On The CW, The Flash fell two-tenths from its season premiere’s 0.8 last week to a 0.6 demo rating and 1.64 million viewers this time around. Black Lightning (0.3, 1.04 million viewers) was similarly down a tenth in its second week.

On CBS, NCIS (1.2, 11.68 million viewers) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.8, 7.38 million viewers) were both down slightly week-to-week as well, while FBI (1.0, 9.39 million viewers) remained steady.
