Despite not setting the live ratings on fire, CBS is sticking behind their first season supernatural drama, Evil. The network has handed out an early season two renewal to the freshman series.
Evil, created by Robert and Michelle King who gave the network hits with The Good Wife and The Good Fight, will run for 13 episodes this season. The creators requested a shorter run for the series to ensure the best storytelling, although they did hold out the possibility of adding two episodes to the initial order before the season began. Evil stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi as, respectively, a psychologist, a priest in training and a carpenter tasked with investigating the Catholic Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and hauntings.
While Evil hasn’t been a true breakout hit, the series has been relatively steady on Thursday night’s at 10:00 PM for the network. Evil is also boosted by delayed viewing bumps, allowing the series to average more than 7.1 million viewers in Nielsen Live+7.
Evil wraps its 13-episode first season on January 30.
